I'm building a 9:1 UNUN to feed an endfed antenna. Has anyone had any experience loading an endfed antenna with the X-108G Outdoor model? I'm hoping it will just be a mater of putting a manual tuner between the radio and the transmission network. My intent is to end up with a bicycle friendly portable station.

I am using a end fed random length, with a 9:1 balun and it works well on receive, but i need to wait for the MFJ mini tuner to arrive before i can get the swr down below 2:1 . Dont want to trash my shiny new X108G with high SWR. Eventually i will pull the antenna down and cut it for 40 meters and it will work better on the higher bands.

I am using end fed antenna with 16,15 m length, 9:1 UNUN and "ant-09" atu clone. Original atu by UA3GDW. Works great :)

For portable use I just cut a few wire dipoles to the correct length and didn't use an atu. I used cheap speaker wire with good results.

I use an EFHW for 40m (64ft or 19.5m) with a 49:1 UNUN and it is resonant on 40, 20, 15, 10 without a tuner. The 49:1 is made of type 61 ferrite, and is a 2:14 turns ratio with an added capacitor to bring the higher frequencies in line with the ham bands on 10m. The counterpoise is only 2ft long.

My other go to is a 20 or 40m dipole cut to resonance, and often run in an inverted V configuration. No ATU needed for that either.

If you need a portable ATU, look at the N7DDC or ATU-100 as an inexpensive option.

Just got an x108g outdoor. I have a newly built 49:1 unun with a 10m copper wire. Will try that and report back.
