Hi Folks,

My New Year's Resolution for 2017 is reviving the old hobby ham radio (My last QSO was 2m/UHF 10 years ago...:)). As living in a city makes a home station / antenna set-up difficult, I tend to build up a portable setup with the X108G Outdoor. The setup should be light and compact, so I was looking for an antenna which does not require an antenna tuner.

Possible one, which I actually ordered already:
Portable Dipole / Inverted V from SOTABEAMS.

Does anybody has experiences with running the X108G without tuner?
Any tips for an "old newbee" are very welcome :)

Have you made tests now with the Dipole?
I use normally a symmetrically feedline (300 or 450 Ohm) with Dipole abt 2 x 6m attached on a fibre mast as an inverted V.
Than i use my RG-211 tuner to match it to the TRX.

Witha resonant antenna such as an inverted-V dipole or linked dipole an ATU is not required. To be safe you can check the antenna with the SWR function in the X108G.
The Sotabeam Band-hopper antennas are 100% reliable and easy to use (no ATU needed with these). If you want to build one yourself rather than buy, then the on-line calculator is on the SMP site here: (click on linked antenna designer).

Works great and no tuner required but you need some supports for it
