"I installed the latest firmware" Problems with modulation began after the upgrade of transciever software?
Hi Oleg, I didn't test before. I got the radio and saw, that the SWR feature was missing and I had a firmware dated april 2016, so I started with firmware update. 73, András
I had some crackles on my microphone dropping my power from 20watt right between 0 and 2 watt. I desided to break the warrantee sticker to get the screw out and i found White Cooling paste right at a row in the middle between the pins of ONE component. 24 great hours of warantee sticker.
Loving the forum and discussions! Gotta see if we can find a way to fix the NB..They do not work but other than that I really like the X-108G. Finally found the right download for the SWR meter..Thanks everyone!
Hi Andras, When you wrote "(BTW: Did you mention that after using the new SWR feature the scale of the S-meter disappears ?)" what do you mean by the scale of the S-meter dissapears. I have just received my X108G outdoor version 1.004 December 24 2016 firmware. (It has the SWR function, so I expect this is the latest version?) All seems good so far EXCEPT the S-meter scale is always showing S9+60dB except if I unplug the antenna and restart the rig. I wonder if this is the same problem that you have. By adding the SWR trace function (which I can only end by turning the rig off by the way), perhaps the S-meter control has been messed up? It stays full scale no matter what setting the AGC is on, whether the pre-amp is on or off or even when the attenuator is on, it stays at the full 5-9+60dB value. 73 Ed DD5LP.
It's been more than a year since I use this radio. The main impression is good radio. Great for trips and hiking, when the weight of the backpack is important. I work in archeology, I know. But not all is perfect - China is China. For a year, the segments of the display digits that glow constantly white light, such as (0-zero), for example, or a white power bar, have faded (or burned out) and are different from unused segments. Unpleasant.
I take it you've tried turning up the intensity in the hidden settings menu? I believe however, as you suggest, it's the LCD that needs replacing. 73 Ed.
I tried switching in the engineering menu 1% brightness and 100% brightness, but did not notice much difference. Display TFT, can someday I replace it. This diversity of segments does not interfere, it is almost invisible, only for me, as a finicky radio amateur, it is visible.
Have you contacted the company who sold you the unit to see if there is any warrenty cover? Or at least to give a quote for repairing the unit ( most likely replacing the LCD )? 73 Ed.
No. And I will not, my radio station has more than a year, the guarantee is over, the faded segments do not interfere. Just unpleasant. Trifle - but unpleasant.
Fair comment Oleg, and good advice for the rest of us to look out for (ideally before the end of the warrenty period). 73 Ed.
I am noticing on cw a strange problem: the first dit or dah is fine and then there is a dramatic drop in power. Is this is firmware issue? Is there another fix? This is a new radio. K7TP
Mine is a New radio as well and had the same problem.... a Firmware upgrade fixed most of it but it still has very SOFT Keying. The rise time on the leading edge of the CW Waveform has a severe delay, making speeds above about 25-wpm to be a bit of a problem. I believe this will have to be a hardware change to fix this issue but have not looked into that as of yet ...
Thank you for the reply. I think that now I have posted twice I can download the new firmware. I will advise.
Hi Grover C, A recommendation - contact the dealer you bought the rig from. If he/she suggests you do a firmware upgrade, fine. Otherwise have them address the issue. If it's under warranty still, they should fix the problem if its fixable! 73 Ed.
Well thanks. I got to your reply too late and did the firmware update. And now, no power output whatsoever! I can't see that it is possible to screwup the firmware update, but maybe I have the magic tough. Hi
Often the problem can be that when you apply a firmware upgrade the system settings are wiped. As long as you took a backup, or at least wrote down all those settings, you may be fine once you enter them all again. I'm pretty sure the firmware update instructions on this forum states that you should do that first. Some people have posted their settings on this list and these might get you working again if you didn't record yours but every unit is slightly different. 73 Ed.
Greetings, I am new to the forum and I want to comment on a problem that I notice. I see that when pressing PTT in sideband there is a small transmission of approximately half a second (in my rig approximately 4W). Does it happen to you?
It would have been valuable if the presenter in the video (KD2ETP) had specified the antenna in use as if he has stray RF it would be better to stop the problem at source rather than improving earthing in the rig. Also I would recommend removing the complete radio from the case rather than trying to "repair" through the back panel! Interesting that he was running 16 watts rather than the full 20w (as a better test) and he still called it QRP! QRP on SSB is a maximum of 10w PEP. Glad to say, I don't have the problem described. 73 Ed.
